To become certified, The CSIA believes that chimney sweeps must go through rigorous training and testing, proving that they have what it takes to repair and maintain your chimney. Training includes two main parts: 1) learning about proper chimney and fireplace maintenance and repair techniques; and 2) putting safety above everything else. After training has been completed, all chimney sweeps are required to pass two exams before they are considered certified.
Keeping up to date on new ventilation and chimney maintenance techniques as well as industry safety standards is important. Chimney servicing and safety technology is always evolving which is why CSIA requires chimney sweeps to go through a recertification process every three years to remain certified.
The CSIA also wants to make sure that certified chimney sweeps are servicing their clients with honesty and integrity. That is why, before they are certified, every chimney sweep complies with a strict code of ethics.
