Our Level 1, 2 & 3 Chimney Inspections Are Thorough & Reliable

With all that’s unseen by the naked eye, it can be difficult to know whether or not your chimney system is in tip-top shape or if repairs or cleanings are needed. How can you be sure if you can’t see 90% of the system? Well, the best way to stay in the know with your chimney is to schedule a chimney inspection with a Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA)-certified chimney professional. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the CSIA recommend these inspections every single year because they help pinpoint problems and fire hazards that may otherwise go unnoticed until they reach dangerous levels.

Have you scheduled your inspection this year? If not, it’s time to give us a call! We’re the only CSIA-certified sweeps in the Knoxville area and we stand behind our Level 1, 2 and 3 chimney inspections. What’s the difference between each level? We’re glad you asked!

  • Level 1. Level 1 inspections are our most basic offerings and they’re usually sufficient for well-maintained chimneys that seem to be operating at peak levels. These inspections are pretty simple and don’t involve any specialized tools, but they can give a quick overview of the chimney and its condition. If you’ve kept your chimney clean and you haven’t noticed any changes in performance, a level 1 inspection will likely be all you need this year.
  • Level 2. Level 2 inspections are a bit more involved and are recommended for homeowners buying or selling a home, homeowners who have recently had severe weather (like a tornado, strong straight line winds, etc.), homeowners who are swapping appliances or fuel types, homeowners who are having their flue relined, and homeowners who have noticed a problem or a change with their system. During a level 2, we’ll slip a camera up into or down into the chimney flue to get a video scan of the entire flue interior. We’ll also check every easily accessible area of the chimney — from top to bottom.
  • Level 3. Level 3 inspections typically require some demo, like the removal of a wall or part of the chimney, and are really only performed if the problem or damage can’t be addressed otherwise. A level 3 may be required if you’ve had a chimney fire or if there seems to be no other way of figuring out what’s going on with your system.
