We Offer Level 1, 2, and 3 Chimney Inspections

We Offer Level 1, 2, and 3 Chimney Inspections

Periodic chimney inspections are vital to the health of your fireplace and chimney. Inspections discover any problematic chimney issues. However, did you know that there are three different levels of chimney inspections that we here at Tennessee Chimney & Home can offer you? The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) has three levels of inspection based on whether or not there were any major changes to your chimney system.

Level 1

A level 1 chimney inspection is the most basic chimney inspection that we offer. A level 1 inspection will take place if there have been no major changes to your chimney system since your last annual inspection. During this type of inspection, we check the structural integrity of your chimney system. Next, they will inspect the accessible parts of your chimney and look for blockages and creosote in your ventilation system. Finally, the technician conducts a final check of your chimney, it’s flue, the fireplace, and all other chimney components.

Level 2

A level 2 chimney inspection is needed after any major changes to your chimney system. Examples include changes in your fuel system, relining, tuckpointing, or changes to your appliance components. This type of inspection is more thorough than a level 1 inspection. A level 2 inspection is also needed if there has been a transfer of home ownership, or if there has been any major damage to the home such as a fire, earthquake, or sinking foundation. This type of inspection is similar to a Level 1 inspection, except there is the added requirement of performing a video scan. Our chimney technicians will use a video scanner to inspect every inch, inside and outside of your chimney. Video scanning is an important tool for finding small cracks and crumbling in the mortar.

Level 3

Level 3 inspections are performed when significant hazards are suspected. They include all the areas checked in both level 1 and level 2 inspections. However, level 3 inspections allow our chimney technicians to use demolition tools to carefully check areas where there may be a suspected hazard

When scheduling any type of chimney inspection, the most important thing to do is hire a CSIA certified chimney technician.
